Announcement
The Literacy Council of Prince George's County,
MD seeks dynamic, passionate, and committed
instructors with the ability to capture the
attention of our young adult Pre-GED/GED
learners for Southern PGC locations. Classes are
held 2-3 times per week; average 8-12 hrs/week
(teaching and planning). Bachelors Degree
required; teaching experience preferred. No
calls please.
Adult Education Instructor
Responsibilities
* Plan,
design, and deliver dynamic, learner-centered
instruction that incorporates explicit and
inquiry-based learning, and problem centered
approaches to learning;
*
Help learners set educational goals and define
their personal goals as family members, workers,
and community members;
* Introduce
diverse and culturally sensitive materials to
curriculum that support learner achievement of
education and personal goals;
*
Support and document student achievement through
ongoing goal monitoring, informal assessments,
and collection of examples of learner work
throughout each semester;
*
Encourage learner retention and advancement by
maintaining student contact and supporting
learner transfers within program (ESOL to ABE,
ABE to GED or EDP, etc.);
*
Collect, record, and submit timesheets,
attendance, and other Literacy Works Information
System (LWIS) data accurately in accordance with
Literacy Council procedures and deadlines;
*
Observe and enforce Literacy Council attendance,
enrollment, and behavior policies; support and
encourage learner participation in
organizational activities;
*
Participate in all mandatory staff meetings
(2-3/year) and at least 8 hours per year of
professional development.
Position Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required; teaching or
training experience preferred.
• Experience with traditionally underrepresented
groups of adults preferred.
• Experience with out-of-school youth a plus,
but not required.
• Ability to integrate technology into class
instruction preferred.
• Must be reliably available during the evening
or weekend hours of assigned class.
• Team player with good communication and
organizational skills.
