Illiteracy Rates Soar in Prince George's County
The below basic literacy rate in Prince George’s County adults jumped from 12 percent to 22 percent between 1992 and 2003...  making Prince George's County home to the largest number of adults in the state and the metropolitan area who are unable to perform simple and everyday literacy activities.

The Literacy Council of Prince George's County announced today that it is one of two nonprofits in the county to be selected by the Catalogue for excellence, cost-effectiveness and impact... 


The Literacy Council of Prince George's County, MD is a nonprofit education community devoted to adult literacy and lifelong learning. Its programs strengthen the literacy skills necessary to gain personal, parental, and economic empowerment; civic responsibility; and technological proficiency.

Our comprehensive program includes the following: one-on-one tutoring, computer-assisted learning, GED classes, Pre-GED classes, Basic Reading and Literacy classes, ESOL classes and an External Diploma Program.  We are able to offer classes and tutoring services without charge because of the generous support of individual, organizational, corporate and government funding.

The Literacy Council front desk is covered from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday - Thursday and Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
